Explore the vibrant diversity of Japanese graphic arts in this bold exhibition at Japan House London which bridges the worlds of fine art, commercial illustration and counterculture.Presenting the work of 60 Japanese artists, the show features late 20th Century innovators such as Tanaami Keiichi and Yamaguchi Harumi alongside a number of emerging artists being exhibited in the UK for the first time.

Together with well-known styles such as pop art and surrealism, the exhibition also explores the concept of heta-uma which translates to “bad, but good”, referring to apparently unskilled art which reveals greater merit upon closer inspection.

Inspired by an annual exhibition in Tokyo of the same name, and curated by artists Hiro Sugiyama and Takahashi Kintarō, WAVE: Currents in Japanese Graphic Arts presents a rare opportunity to experience the diversity of Japanese illustration and graphic arts in one place outside Japan.

Opening Hours:  Mon - Sat 10am - 8pm, Wed 10am - 6pm, Sun 12pm - 6pm, Thu 21 10am - 9pm
