DESIGN · ART · CRAFT: HERITAGE FOR THE FUTURE BY ON·ENTROPY

Marble atelier on·entropy explores the interrelationship between marble-design and the art of sculpting, challenging the boundaries between design, art and craft and arguing that heritage sets the roots for these three to co-exist now and in the future.
The art of marble sculpting is an expression of the cultural identity of Greece for millennia and in particular for the island of Tinos. Inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List of Intangible Heritage, marble- carving of Tinians provides strong links to their history, natural resources and cultural identity.
In the attempt to contribute into the transmission of marble sculpting into future generations, on·entropy sees design as a vehicle to nurture such a unique, and increasingly less practiced, skill. Especially in the work of on·entropy, which highlights the different facets of marble finishes, textures & transparency, the impact of artisanal expertise into materiality is central to the design process. The designer borrows the hand of the sculptor and the sculptor they eyes of the designer.
