Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg

1-5 Exhibition Road

In collaboration with the Brompton design project, Vessel Gallery of Kensington Park Road, will present the mesmerising sculptures of artists Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg. The Swiss-American partners’ work will be on view exclusively for the first time in London at the Vessel satellite gallery at 1 — 5 Exhibition Road, South Kensington, London. The satellite Gallery opened for COLLECT 2008 at the V&A.

In the artisit’s own words, ‘One thing especially excites us about our latest work: the celebration of the sphere – the most profoundly primordial and ubiquitous shape in the known universe – going all the way back to the supposed Big Bang. One of the fundamental symbols of all cultures throughout humanity’s sojourn on earth, the sphere embodies our sense of community, the wholeness of things, cosmic universality. Whatever we hold sacred may be found in the sphere.’

The Brompton Design Project encourages the partnership between the design and the business sectors. The show window project began last year to bring life into vacant shop windows by encouraging designers and artists to use the space in an interesting and exciting way.
