Propeller Island is a series of one month, artist run projects held at 29 Thurloe Place, a temporary gallery in South Kensington.

From Monday the 5th of January 2009 17 resident artists will start working within the space. They will be creating new work and programming a series of events which will take place during the month, including film screenings, discussions, story telling, theatre, cabaret and dance etc.

A week by week schedule of events will be posted on the blog site: http://propellerisland.blogspot.com/

The project culminates with a four day extravaganza of art and performance running from Thursday 29th of January until Sunday 1st of February 2009. Taking part in this event will be the 17 resident artists alongside an array of special guest performers including performance artist, Mark Mcgowan; artist and musician Jo Robertson; firewoman, Alex Glen; artists and theorist John Cussans, the band Les Cox Sportifs and many more.

Propeller Island takes its name from a fictional creation of Jules Verne, in which a string quartet are lured onto a roaming island where they perform as the island moves across the Ocean, stopping off at various locations on its journey. This project aims to blow open the creative process and perform the role of a public arena.
