100 chairs in 100 days
Martino Gamper, the ever–popular designer and RCA tutor, finished his design project ‘100 chairs in 100 days’ in October last year.
He held an exhibition in the Brompton Design District to show all the 100 chairs together and to celebrate the launch of his book about the chair making process over the 100 days. The exhibitionÊwas held atÊ5 Cromwell Place, the grand building in South Kensington that formely belonged to the painter John Lavery.ÊThe oldÊart studio was full of strange and interesting chairs, some made fromÊwood, someÊfrom plastic,Êsome cushioned and someÊwith wheels.ÊAll chairsÊwere an amalgamation of previous chairs put together to make a chairÊhybrid.
The exhibition ran to coincide with the Frieze Art Fair and was in collaboration with the Brompton Design project
